Should I tell my chiropractor I have a bipolar disorder?

Right now I am experiencing some lower back pain and have decided to see a chiropractor. I have to fill out paperwork that asks me to list other conditions. It’s already such a huge stigma to have a mental illness. I would prefer to tell as few people as possible. Why should I have to tell them about some other health condition and medications I’m taking for it, if my back is whats hurting?

yes tell him every condition you have just in case their is something he will do that might effect it who knos just tell him he wont judge you or make fun of you he is a chiropractor

  2. Believe it or not but some mental disorders can actually cause or go along with other phsycial symptoms. I would tell them. Its all kept very private, and it might do you more help than harm. Whats the worst that can happen?

  3. If you aren’t going to get any meds from them, then it is probably up to you to say if you have bipolar or not. But it does seem to me that I have had few if any stigma problems from medical people, because they run into people with bipolar all the time.

It helps me if I sleep on my side with a pillow between my knees, or if I am on my back, put the pillow under my knees. It keeps the spine in a better position. I learned this either from a physical therapist or a chiropracter, and I almost never have lower back pain anymore.

  4. yes you should the disorder can have some effect on how you respond to what the chiropractor does and so they have future refernences. the doctors might know things that the patient does not

  5. Hello noname,

I’m also Bipolar, I just went to my new eye doctor and told them, they usually ask if your on any meds. Mine asked why I was taking them,so I told him, I actually tell all medical staff anywhere I go, I think it’s important and it is very confidential.

So no need to worry, it may make a difference in the help you recieve.

    Take and never give up!

  6. I would have to question the chiropractor’s need to know anything about your medical history because they are not medical doctors. They may be able to temporarily relieve your pain but they are, by no means, the long term answer.

Make an appointment with your doctor or an orthopedic specialist. My advice is to avoid the chiropractor as they can do more harm than good!

Chiropractors have to believe that everything causes conditions that only they can fix so they can convince patients that we can’t live comfortably without visits twice per week.

I had a stroke last year as a result of chiropractic treatment and have since made it a priority to raise awareness of the dangers of chiropractic care. Please visit this website to read my story and similar ones of other victims so you may be aware of the risks and make an informed decision about treatment.
